Our Design Process
Following a process of design is essential to keep your project moving forward smoothly. This process is geared towards our new construction and renovation projects. Though there is some overlap between many of the steps, by working from the largest scale to the smallest ensures that no step is missed and every opportunity is explored each step of the way. We can merge into any team you already have in place or help in building your team to unlock your project's fullest potential.

KMV interiors uses a variety of mediums to ensure our clients understand the final outcome of the project. From two dimensional plans and elevations, to 3D renderings, inspiration images, furniture collages, material boards, and even showroom visits, our clients will know exactly how their home will know their home inside and out before construction even begins.

As every project differs in scale, not all of the steps may be present in your project, but every project follows a methodology that will lead to a successful outcome.

01
Design
Consultation
The first step of any project. During the intial consultation we get to understand each client's unique goals. We discuss scope of work, aesthetic preferences, and the budget for the project. These topics will be the foundation for the entire design process from conceptualization to final installations.
02
Space
Planning
Whether building from the ground up or renovating an existing residence, the space planning is one of the most important aspects of the design process. It will dictate the functionality of your home and lays the ground work for integrating the stylistic choices for the home.
03
Concept Development
In conjunction with the space planning we begin to introduce inspiration images and general finishes to begin defining an overall style for the home. This is imperative at this phase as the space planning of a more traditional house may be different from a modern home with an open concept.
04
Design
Development
This is the phase where the initial concepts get translated into final designs. Everything from the lighting plan and cabinetry designs, to plumbing and appliance selections as well as final finishes get defined. At the end of this phase our clients understand exactly what their home is going to look like and how it will function.
05
Construction
Documentation
Upon approval of the Design Development we will produce a full set of construction documents for the contractor to bid and execute off of. Our construction documents are very thorough and include everything from dimensioned floor plans, ceiling plans and finishes plans, to interior elevations and diagrams of even the smallest details to make sure the contractor has all of the information needed to execute the design as intended.
06
Bidding the Project
Once the construction docuementation has been completed, the drawing set will be sent to contractors to bid the project. We are happy to work with our clients' own contractors or are able to provide suggestions of contractors capable of executing the project to the highest level of detail. We go through a thorough vetting process of any contractor to make sure they not only are able to meet our clients' budgets but will deliver the project at the highest standards.
07
Construction
Administration
The contractor has been selected, the permits have been obtained and its time to begin construction. KMV Interiors will work with the architects to manage the project to make sure that no detail is missed and the project is executed acccording to the design intent of all parties. We visit the site to monitor progress, review the shop drawings of the various subcontractors, and provide the contractor more information as needed to ensure a seamless construction process on behalf of our clients.
08
Interior
Decoration Concepts
Furniture trends are constantly in motion and new product is introduced to the market everyday. Depending on the scale or timeline of the project, the interior decoration selections typically start six to eight months prior to the completion of construction to allow plenty of time to receive the merchandise but also that our client's are getting the latest and greatest designs.
09
Final Punchlist
At the end of construction, we walk the site with our clients and the contractor and create a final punch list of items that are not up to the highest standards. Paint touchups, minor millwork misalignments or a tile that needs to be switched out, we ensure the contractor doesn't leave the site until your project is perfect.
10
Furniture Installations
The messy part is over! Its time to move in the furniture and accessories. We oversee all installations and shift the furniture around until it fits the space like a glove. We make sure the artwork is hung at the right height, all chords are tucked away and the bed is neatly made.
